Baptism

Congratulations on the birth of your child and thank you for taking this first step with your child on a life- long journey of faith.

Baptism is a sacrament of welcome, of acceptance, of challenge and of opportunity. It welcomes your child to the faith and into a faith community- and welcomes you, your family, your friends and your child’s godparents to share in that same experience.

You and the godparents you have chosen are about to make an impact  on a young life. Your role is one which calls you to promise that you will teach your child by word and action about God, faith and values.

It is an awesome responsibility, but at the same time, an enormous privilege (Fr Stan Kluk CSMA, Parish Priest).

Baptisms are celebrated each Sunday (apart from a very few exceptions) at 11.00am at our church. Applications for Baptism are made by completing the Baptism Application Form below and returning it to the Parish Office as soon as possible. One month notice is required.

Residence outside our parish:   If you reside in a suburb outside our parish, and would like your child to be baptised in Holy Spirit Parish, you will need to obtain written permission from your Parish Priest.  You will also need to complete a Baptism Preparation Session either in your own parish or at Holy Spirit.

How can parents prepare for their Child’s Baptism? Once you have chosen the date for your child’s Baptism you are required to attend the Preparation Night to help you get ready for this most important step you are taking on your child’s behalf.

The Preparation Night is held every third Thursday of the month. Attendance is compulsory and takes place in the Parish Office at 7pm and lasts for about an hour.

In the days before the ceremony, it would be a good idea if you could find a few quiet moments to reflect on what it means to bring the grace of God to your child in this Sacrament and to welcome Christ’s life and love into your family in a special way.
