Fr Stan writes …

We welcome into our Christian community through the Sacrament of Baptism Julían Pírreca and congratulate his family.

You will have noticed that this week we have returned to Ordinary Time in the Church’s liturgical calendar. The excitement of Christmas and New Year is over. I would like to thank those who helped with the Christmas decorations, putting them up and taking them down. THANK YOU!

The term ‘Ordinary Time’ mentioned above, does not mean “usual or average”. Ordinary here means “not seasonal”, meaning that it lies outside the seasons of Lent-Easter and Advent-Christmas. In this time, the Church celebrates the mystery of Christ not in one specific aspect but in all its aspects. The readings help to instruct us on how to live out our Christian faith in our daily lives.

AUSTRALIA

We bless you, God of the universe,

for this land,

for its contrasts of landscape and climate,

for its abundance of wealth and opportunity.

We bless you for our history,

with all its struggle in adversity,

its courage and hope.

Give us in our diversity

tolerance and respect for each other

and a passionate commitment to justice for all.

Bless us so that we might be a blessing to others.

We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
